Last night we had a fantastic evening in Hillsborough Village Centre discussing horse behaviour. I always focus on anchoring everything I teach in the real world. So rather than just a theoretical discussion about horse behaviour, ethology and perception, I explained the link between each adaptation and what the horse does in the real world and what this means for us as owners, handlers, riders and trainers.
Many of the comments on the feedback forms focused on how helpful it was to have the real world examples. For me this practical application of theory is essential. It has to make sense to be useful!!
At the end of the session one of the participants asked about next week’s session on Motivation (Monday 2nd March) and what it was all about.
Motivation, simply put, is the what drives horses to act the way they do. How they feel about stuff, about the world, drives behaviour.
So we will be discussing that in detail, what it means for us, what it means for the horses, and how having that knowledge forms the backbone of our interactions.
There are just a few spaces left, so if you fancy booking in, go fill out the form!!
